The English-speaking driver will pick you up with a luxury car wherever you’re staying, and he’ll hold a sign with your name. During the trip, he’ll give you some basic information of the area you’re visiting.
Pompeii was an ancient Roman city which was destroyed and buried, along with Herculaneum, by a violent explosion of Mount Vesuvius in 79 B.C. The city has not yet been fully brought to light and many of its treasures still lie underground. Walking through the excavations is a unique experience: it is like taking a trip back in time, you can feel the atmosphere of the past walking between the columns, frescoes, and mosaics of rare beauty.
Archaeological excavations are open to the public between 09:00 am and 18:30 pm, every day of the week. On request, you can also book a local guide that walks you through the ruins and provide a detailed explanation of everything you’ll see.
The driver will take you to the parking lot, where we start walking for about 200 meters, to reach the crater along the slopes of Vesuvius. While walking you can admire the breathtaking view over the bay of Naples, that will help you forget the hardships of climbing. Once you reach the crater, you can walk around with an official mountain guide, who’ll tell you all you need to know about this volcano that is currently considered one of the most dangerous in the world.
The tour lasts about an hour-and-a-half and it is highly suggested wearing appropriate shoes and a jacket.
